Republican john fillmore announces candidacy for the state legislature

2006 candidate for the State House of Representatives, John Fillmore of Apache Junction announced his candidacy for the seat in 2008 today.  Fillmore is an entrepreneurial businessman and the owner and founder of the Weather Shack, a chain of stores selling fireplaces, wood burning, gas, and pellet stoves, and evaporative coolers based in Arizona.  He also owns a sheet metal fabrication shop.  He is a licensed contractor and pipe fitter in the state of Arizona, and an active real estate broker in both Arizona and Utah.

Fillmore ran in 2006 and while having been a resident of the District for less than 3 years lost by less than 3% to 3 Individuals that had been born and lived their lives in the County.. John stated that he has spent the last year further introducing himself to the District and learning about its concerns

Fillmore is running on a platform that addresses, school funding, cutting the state government size and budget while still trying to increase states share of revenue for Pinal County roads. 

Fillmore has served on the Gilbert economic development board and the governance committee for a Mesa Visioning Process.  He was the first chairman of the leadership program for the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce and former member of the board of directors of the Mesa Sister Cities Program and of the Gilbert Boys and Girls Auxiliary Club. He is a member of 3 Chambers of Commerce in Pinal County, a Rotarian, a Toastmaster and serves on the Board of Directors of the Arizona Hearth Products Association.  He is a Republican precinct committeeman, and President of the Superstition Mountain Republican Club in Apache Junction. Fillmore was founder and Chairman of the Arizona V.O.T.E. (Voting Open to everyone) Initiative  one of the first attempts to allow independents to vote in open primaries.

Fillmore received an honorable discharge from his enlistment in the United States Army in 1972, and was the only veteran in the 2006 race.  He was endorsed by the NRA, Realtors, and the Police Association amongst many others in 2006
